Combine RUNDOWN
The VT Combine a series of workouts / tests that will be delivered monthly to each facility, where members have the opportunity to test their ability for their own reference or to compete against other members over multiple areas of human and athletic performance.
Workout 1 will be released March 1st with workouts being released monthly over the next 6 months.
The top performers will have the opportunity to then head to VT HQ in August for the VTCombine showdown where the elite will playoff to reveal Team VT who will head up to compete in the Turf Games in the Gold Coast — ALL EXPENSES PAID!
Combine RUles
The VT Combine qualifying monthly workouts are the first stage of the VT Combine season. They are a series of events, with one event released each month over 6 consecutive months.
- All athletes' results must be registered no later than the conclusion of the first qualifying round. No exceptions will be made without what is deemed by staff to be a reasonable explanation.
- Athlete performances in each event are judged, validated, and ranked on the VT Combine Leaderboard. The top qualifying athletes will qualify to compete at the next stage of competition, the VT Combine Showdown.
- Each month's event(s) will be released on the 1st of each month (noon) Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Athletes will have until the last day of the month to complete the events and submit a score.
- You only have one chance to complete a "judged" monthly workout. Your recorded time will be based on your first attempt.
- NO catch up week/month will be available for any workout to be attempted or re-attempted.
- Workouts must be done in a VTT facility and approved by a VTT trainer unless prior arrangement has been made, and where evidence (recorded workout) has been submitted to the local facility and forwarded to head office.
- In any event of any equipment malfunction the workout must be re-done within the timeline stated.
To be approved at another facility:
- Athlete must show the timer/stopwatch in the video recording
- Athlete must use VTT approved equipment
- Athlete must submit it during the relevant timeframe
Qualifying Monthly workouts
WORKOUT 1: Winded
Workout 1 is an anaerobic fitness test comprising two movements over a 4 minute period.
- 20-second maximum calorie effort on a Rogue bike, followed by a 10-second rest.
- 20-second maximum burpees, followed by a 10-second rest.
- Perform and alternate all 8 efforts over the 4 minute period.
- Scoring will be based on total calorie accumulated through the workout where each burpee will contribute 2 calories to the total on the bike.

WORKOUT 2: STreak
How it works
It is a 5 rounds for time structured workout comprising of 3 movements.
- On the call of 3-2-1-Go, the athlete will perform a 10 cal sprint on the Concept 2 BikeErg.
- Once completed the athlete will then sprint 10m to the barbell where they will perform 5 power cleans.
- The athlete will then return to the BikeErg to perform another 10 cal effort.
- The athlete will then return to the barbell to perform 4 power cleans and continue to cycle through each of the movements reducing the power cleans by 1 rep each round until the final rep of the power clean is performed and they will run back to the bike to complete the workout.

Streak Standards
- The BikeErg damper must be set on 6.
- The athlete must cross the 10 meter mark before performing the cleans.
- The weight of the power clean will be determined by the weight of the athlete. Ladies lifting 50% of their weight. Males lifting 80% of their weight.
- Once completed the athlete will then sprint 10m to the barbell. Where they will perform 5 power cleans.
- For power cleans to count the bar must start on the floor with each rep.
- The bar must be secured in the front rack position with the athlete's elbows clearly in front of the bar. The athlete's knees and hips must be locked out at the top of the lift to complete the rep successfully.
- To complete the workout the athlete must cross the 10 metre mark next to the BikeErg.

WORKOUT 3: Hyena
How it works
Hyena is workout 3 of the 2023 VT Combine. It is a strength endurance test comprising of two movements over a 5-minute period.
- On the call of 3-2-1-Go, the athlete will perform as many reps as possible of deadlifts and benchpresses.
- The score is determined by the amount of combined reps over the 5-minute period.
- Ladies will deadlift their bodyweight and benchpress 50% of their bodyweight.
- Males will deadlift their bodyweight and benchpress 70% of their bodyweight.

Hyena Standards
For each deadlift rep to count:
- Hips and knees must be fully locked at the top of each deadlift.
- Plates must touch the floor for each rep to count.
For each benchpress rep to count:
- The barbell must come into contact with the athlete.
- Chest and arms must be locked out at the top of each rep or a no-rep will be called.
- Any rep that is spotted will not be counted.

WORKOUT 4: Vertigo
How it works
Vertigo is a 10 minute max-calorie aerobic workout split into 8 blocks.
On the call of 3-2-1-Go, the athlete will perform a maximum calorie effort on the SkiErg for 30 seconds.
The athlete will then proceed to jump on to the Echo Bike and knock out a maximum calorie effort for another 30 seconds.
The athlete will then go back to the SkiErg and complete a 1-minute max-calorie effort and return to the Echo Bike for a 1-minute effort.
Athletes will then complete a one-and-a-half minute effort on each, and to conclude, they will perform a 2-minute effort on each machine to reveal their total score.
Vertigo Standards
- The athlete must alternate machines after each block is complete.
- The athlete must reset the calorie counter each time they begin a new block.
- The clock must continue to count throughout the entire workout.

WORKOUT 5: Soul Snatcher
How it works
Soul Snatcher is a six-minute workout split into six rounds of 45 seconds of working time and 15 seconds of rest.
On the call of 3-2-1-Go, the athlete will perform 45 seconds of alternating dumbbell snatches.
Once the 45-second buzzer sounds, the athlete then has 15 seconds too make their way to the ski where they will begin a max-calorie ski for the next 45-second working block.
The athlete will then repeat the two movements for six rounds, trying to get as many alternating dumbbell snatches and calories on the ski as possible.

Standards
- When performing the dumbbell snatches, the dumbbell must begin and end with it contacting the floor.
- The athlete's arm must be fully extended with the dumbbell clearly above the shoulder or a no-rep will be called.
- The athlete must alternate arms with each rep but has the ability to choose at what point of the snatch they change hands.
- Males will snatch 25kg, then 30 kg, then 35kg in the final round.
- Females will snatch 15kg, then 17.5kg, then 20kg in the final round.
- Ski erg efforts will be performed with the damper set at 7 and decrease by 1 with each 45 second effort on the ski.

WORKOUT 6: THE LAST DANCE
How it works
The Last Dance is a three round for time structured workout comprising two movements, capped at 7 minutes.
On the call of 3-2-1-GO, the athlete will perform 10 burpee box jumpovers and then 10 toes to bar.
The athelete will then perform 3 rounds of both exercises as quick as possible to reveal their time.

Standards
- Males will perform burpee box jumpovers on a 24-inch box, females on a 20-inch box.
- The athlete must start with their chest on the floor, jump onto the box with both feet making contact with the top of the box, and jump off the box to complete ONE burpee box jumpover rep.
- For toes to bar reps to count, both of the athlete's feet must come into contact with the bar in what is deemed to be a simultaneous movement by the scoring judge.
